How do we know when it’s time to take that leap?

The leap is the hardest step but also the most beautiful of the entrepreneurial journey. In this episode of the Be Moore Mindful podcast Carrolee Moore and Melanie Rice take us on their own personal journeys and what their leaps looked like.

They discuss the “right way” and the “wrong way” to leap and how most of the time if your mindset isn’t fortified you will hit the ground. They share the time they’ve fallen and more importantly the times they got back up and leaped all over again. They talk about how yes, there are tools you can use, and preparations you can make but if your mindset isn’t one of those tools or preparations, you will get stuck in survival mode.

Carrolee and Melanie bring up the great topic of grief that comes with starting your journey as an entrepreneur, there’s a massive lifestyle change that comes with it, there’s people you love and respect that may just see it as you leaving a safe and steady job to be unemployed, friends who don’t really understand this new you and you now have to come to terms with all of this. So many people don’t know that that feeling of loss is coming so it hits them like a ton of bricks.

They discuss that mentality a lot of us start out with, the hurry up and be successful so no one knows just how painful this is mentality. This podcast is meant to say stop trying to fake the funk, it’s okay to not be okay, let’s use what we know and strengthen our minds to build a better business because it’s not going to happen over night but with the right mindset it will happen over time.

Melanie takes us through her leap in 2019 where she realized that when life was easy, she felt uneasy. The question “what are you waiting for” was asked and she jumped in, full bore, with a plan in place, a safety net and all the “right” tools.

Carrolee begins her story as a young girl living in Jamaica ready to take over the world, and as she grew up and went to college and started working, that mindset of “I can do this” quickly became seeing herself as what was on her resume, which at the time was temp jobs. Her leap didn’t come until December of 2020 and she admits she hadn’t really fully leaped, she just hopped with the hopes of leaping.

Spoiler Alert: Both of these approaches “failed”.

Carrolee and Melanie discuss the power of their mindset shift and how that turned those times they hit the ground into opportunities. They end the conversation what can really be a life lesson even outside of business. You have to go inside to find it, if you can’t dig deep and go inside to yourself, you’ll always be searching. When you take the fear of “I can’t do this” and replace it with “well why can’t I do this” you see that internal shift that eventually leads to the leap of “I can and I’m gonna do it damn well”.
